Couple reportedly spent the day drinking before a heated argument turned deadly
A 31-year-old man identified as Joel was brutally stabbed to death by his wife on Sunday evening (October 12) in the São Matheus neighborhood of Várzea Grande, a city located in the state of Mato Grosso, Brazil.
According to witnesses, the couple had been drinking together all day, when an argument broke out after Joel said he wanted to go out again to drink. In a fit of rage, the woman allegedly grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed her husband multiple times in the neck and head.
The victim reportedly ran toward the front area of the house but collapsed and died before emergency services arrived. Paramedics from the Mobile Emergency Care Service (SAMU) were called but could only confirm his death.
Witnesses told police that the suspect attempted to hide the murder weapon in a plastic bag behind the house before fleeing the scene. Officers from the Military Police and Civil Police remain in the area conducting searches to locate and arrest her.
The body was taken to the Legal Medical Institute (IML) in Várzea Grande for forensic examination. The case will be investigated by the Homicide and Protection Police Department (DHPP).
