A shocking video from Brazil has gone viral on social media, causing outrage among residents and churchgoers in Nova Maringá, a town located about 380 km from Cuiabá, in the state of Mato Grosso.
The footage allegedly shows relatives of an engaged woman breaking into a parish house and confronting a man identified by locals as Father Luciano, from the Parish of Our Lady Aparecida, part of the Diocese of Diamantino.
The incident reportedly took place on Monday night (13) and has since spread rapidly across WhatsApp groups and regional news portals. In the video, relatives can be seen forcing open a bathroom door before discovering the woman hiding under the sink, wearing pajamas and appearing visibly nervous.
Although the Diocese of Diamantino has not yet released an official statement confirming the identity of the man involved, regional sources claim that Father Luciano had recently been transferred to the parish in Nova Maringá.
The alleged involvement of a Catholic priest with an engaged woman has sparked controversy and intense debate among the local faithful, many of whom are demanding clarification from the Church.
So far, neither the priest nor the Diocese has made any public comment. The incident is expected to be investigated internally by Church authorities due to the scandal’s viral impact and the damage to the parish’s image.
