Lawyer killed after being shot and run over during farm dispute in Brazil
A Brazilian lawyer identified as Roberto Costa Marques, aged 67, was shot and run over during a violent confrontation on a farm located on the Jatobá road, in Santo Antônio de Leverger, Mato Grosso, Brazil, on the morning of Monday (13).

According to the Civil Police, the fight began after a commercial disagreement between the lawyer and another man known as Eduardo.

Witnesses reported that Roberto arrived at the property armed, intending to confront Eduardo over a rural business dispute. During the heated argument, both men allegedly exchanged gunfire inside the farm.

Investigators said Roberto shot Eduardo twice, injuring him, but Eduardo retaliated and also shot the lawyer. A farm worker tried to break up the fight, but the situation spiraled out of control. In the middle of the chaos, Roberto was run over, sustaining critical injuries.
Despite being wounded and covered in blood, Eduardo managed to escape and sought help at a Federal Highway Police (PRF) post. He told officers that the lawyer was tied up and injured at the farm.

Police immediately called for medical help, and Eduardo was taken to the Emergency Care Unit (UPA) in the Pascoal Ramos neighborhood, in Cuiabá, Brazil.
When police and firefighters arrived at the scene, they found Roberto Costa Marques severely injured and barely conscious. He was rushed to the same UPA, where he was intubated, but did not survive.
The Forensic and Technical Identification Agency (Politec) examined the scene and collected evidence. The firearm used in the confrontation was seized, and Roberto’s body was sent to the Legal Medical Institute (IML) for autopsy.
The Civil Police of Mato Grosso, Brazil, opened an investigation to determine what led to the deadly confrontation and the exact circumstances of the lawyer’s death.
