Body of missing woman found in the Sucuri region of Cuiabá, Brazil

On the morning of Friday (17), the Military Police found the body of a woman who had been missing since Thursday (16). The victim, identified as Elaine Barbosa, was last seen in the 24 de Dezembro neighborhood, in Várzea Grande, near Cuiabá, Mato Grosso, Brazil.

The body of Elaine was discovered in the Sucuri region, in Cuiabá, Brazil, near where her pickup truck was found abandoned. According to initial reports, a message written on the hood of the vehicle contained the word “debt”, which may indicate a possible motive for the crime.

Authorities believe Elaine Barbosa was kidnapped on Thursday. Police teams had been searching the area since her disappearance. The Military Police isolated the crime scene until experts from the Technical Police (Politec) arrived, while investigators from the Homicide and Protection of Persons Department (DHPP) have already begun their investigation.

The case is being treated as a possible kidnapping followed by homicide, but other lines of investigation remain open.

The body was sent to the Legal Medical Institute (IML) for an autopsy, and the investigation is ongoing.

O corpo foi encontrado na região do Sucuri, em Cuiabá, Brazil, e próximo ao local foi localizada a caminhonete da vítima, abandonada. No capô, havia uma mensagem escrita à mão com a palavra “dívida”. Equipes da Polícia Militar isolaram a área até a chegada da Politec, e a DHPP já iniciou as investigações.
