SCHOOL AND FRIENDS MOURN THE DEATH OF DAVI, 10-YEAR-OLD BOY KILLED BY KITE STRING COATED WITH GLASS IN VÁRZEA GRANDE

The tragic accident that took young Davi Almeida Franco’s life has left his school, teachers, and community in deep sorrow — the search for who used the deadly string continues.

A heartbreaking tragedy shocked the city of Várzea Grande, Brazil, on Sunday (26).

Davi Almeida Franco, a 10-year-old boy, lost his life after being struck by a kite string coated with glass powder (known as “cerol”) while riding his bicycle along Rua das Japuíras, in the Hélio Ponce de Arruda neighborhood, Cristo Rei district.

According to preliminary reports, Davi suffered a deep cut to the neck, losing a large amount of blood before help could arrive. Emergency services from Samu and officers from the Military Police were called to the scene, but tragically, the boy died before receiving medical attention.

Davi was a beloved student at a local public school. His teachers, classmates, and parents were devastated by the news, describing him as a cheerful, respectful, and bright child who was loved by everyone.

“He was always smiling, polite, and full of life. The entire school is in mourning,” said one of his teachers with tears in her eyes.

Authorities confirmed that no one has been identified as the owner of the kite line responsible for the fatal accident. Residents reported that several people were flying kites in the area at the time, making it difficult to determine who was responsible.

The director of the news site Lapada Lapada, Serginho Lapada, expressed his deep condolences to the family and the community:

“It’s heartbreaking. A young boy full of dreams had his life taken away by an act of carelessness. We demand justice and stricter enforcement against the use of cerol,” he said.

The investigation is being handled by the Homicide and Protection Police Department (DHPP), and the Forensic Institute (Politec) conducted the procedures at the scene.
